… Seek designation of Ose as pilot hub for off-grid solutions

The All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives candidate for Owo/Ose Federal Constituency, Abdulghani Arobo, has stated that the newly enacted Ondo State Electricity Power Sector (Amendment) Law will transform and accelerate industrialisation and economic development across the state.

According to Arobo, the law, which received Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s assent on August 13, 2026, signalled a shift in the state’s approach to power sector governance by creating pathways for private sector participation and off-grid electricity solutions.

In a statement released through his campaign organisation, GRA4MHR, Arobo commended the governor and the Ondo State House of Assembly for what he termed their “proactive approach” to reforming the electricity sector.

He credited President Bola Tinubu’s administration with establishing the foundation for the current reforms through the Electricity Act, which has enabled states to assume greater responsibility for power generation and regulation.

The APC candidate emphasised that reliable electricity remains fundamental to industrialisation and poverty reduction, particularly in rural and agrarian communities where economic activities are often constrained by power shortages.

He noted that the new legal framework presents an opportunity to address longstanding electricity deficits that have hindered development across the state.

Arobo called on the Ondo State Government to designate Ose Local Council Area as a pilot hub for alternative energy and off-grid solutions, including solar mini-grids and other renewable energy projects.

He pointed out that some communities in Ose have reportedly been without electricity for over ten years, making them prime candidates for immediate intervention under the new law.

“Reliable electricity is not merely a convenience; it is the lifeblood of economic transformation. For communities in Ose that have endured more than a decade without power, the new law offers a pathway to change.

“We must ensure that this legislation translates into tangible improvements for our people, particularly those who have been left behind for too long,” he stated.

The APC candidate argued that the deployment of alternative energy solutions would stimulate economic activities, particularly in agricultural communities, by providing electricity for processing, storage and other value-added activities.

He advocated for the development of industrial and agricultural clusters across Owo and Ose, stating that reliable electricity would help reduce post-harvest losses and support cottage industries.

Arobo also proposed the expansion of technical training in renewable energy, contending that the deployment of alternative energy systems could create significant employment opportunities for young people in installation, maintenance and other related services.

He stressed that the new electricity law should not remain a policy document but must be followed by aggressive implementation at the grassroots level.

The APC candidate described the legislation as a product of federal and state collaboration, expressing optimism that its effective implementation would help unlock Ondo State’s economic potential.

He noted that the decentralisation of Nigeria’s electricity sector through the Electricity Act had empowered states to take greater responsibility for power generation and regulation, creating opportunities for targeted interventions at the sub-national level.

Arobo further pledged that his campaign would continue to make access to reliable electricity a major issue in the Owo/Ose constituency ahead of the general election, pledging that, if elected and sworn into office, he would intensify efforts to attract interventions capable of improving electricity supply and creating opportunities for industrial and agricultural development in the constituency.
