…..as Family, Associates Hold National Prayer Session
One year after the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, his successor, Bola Ahmed Tinubu is billed to lead his family, friends, former associates, government officials and admirers to honour his life and legacy.
Chairman of the Central planning committee and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, disclosed this at a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, saying the event would focus on prayers, reflection and celebration of Buhari’s service to Nigeria.
Mustapha who served as the secretary to the government of the federation when Buhari held away said the one-year remembrance would feature interfaith and interdenominational prayer sessions, reflecting the late President’s commitment to national unity, faith and peaceful coexistence.
He explained that religious leaders from different faiths and denominations would lead prayers for the repose of Buhari’s soul, while a select number of individuals who worked closely with the former President would share personal experiences and reflect on his historical legacy.
A major highlight of the programme, according to Mustapha, will be the public presentation of a commemorative book titled Tributes and Condolences in Honour of Muhammadu Buhari by President Tinubu.
According to him, the publication compiles tributes and condolence messages from heads of state, diplomats, political leaders and other members of the international community following Buhari’s death on July 13 last year at the age of 82.
Mustapha said the collection portrays the late President as a man of simplicity, resilience, humility and integrity whose life inspired many across the world.
Eulogizing the late President Buhari ‘s Sterling leadership qualities, he clarified that the book is not for sale and is not intended for fundraising, stressing that copies would be distributed free of charge.
He said the committee hopes the remembrance programme would not only honour Buhari’s memory but also provide comfort to his family, friends and admirers while encouraging Nigerians to uphold the ideals of service, unity and patriotism associated with the former President.
Mustapha appealed to the media to give the event wide publicity and urged Nigerians to participate by offering prayers individually and collectively in places of worship across the country for the repose of Buhari’s soul.
He thereby expressed confidence that the nationwide prayers would reinforce the values of unity and national cohesion that the late former President championed throughout his public life.
The event is scheduled to hold on the 3th of this month at the Nigeria Army conference, Abuja, the federal capital territory (FCT).
