Ooni of Ife tasks youths on taking back Nigeria, commends Ibru family
The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, has charged Nigerian youths to take back Nigeria by preparing themselves for higher leadership roles, insisting that the country belonged to the youths and not the elders.
The monarch stated this while launching the N10billion endowment fund and N100 million professorial chairs at the Michael and Cecilia Ibru University (MCIU), Agbarha-Otor, Delta State yesterday.
He said over 60 per cent of Nigeria’s population were under 30 years old and admonished the youths to start claiming what naturally belonged to them in the country.
His words: “In this country over 60 per cent are under the age of 30. What good things can they say about this nation? How well have they prepared themselves for leadership of the nation?
“I’m professing today that very soon the youths will start claiming what belong to you. This country belongs to the youths. If you say you don’t want to vote for anybody, so be it.
“But if you want to take Nigeria to the next level, so be it. Even if the politicians want to cause trouble in the country, it is the youths they will use.”
The Ooni admonished the elders to go and rest and give the youths their blessing to pilot the affairs of the nation.
He also lampooned the political class and rich Nigerians who go outside the country to invest or spend the money they made in Nigeria, saying such development had stunted the country’s growth and had created hardship for the youths.
The monarch, however, commended the Ibru family saying they were successful pioneers in their chosen fields, even from their youthful age and contributed immensely to the development of the country.
He said: “I want to thank the Ibru family represented here by Goody Ibru and Co-Founder of the Michael and Cecilia Ibru University (MCIU), Mrs Cecilia Ibru – they are all pioneers.
“They pioneered good things in life. A lot of people through their dynasty have become better people in life. Here is a family that their name will continue ringing even in generations yet unborn.
“The truth is that this country belongs to the youths. It’s time the youths have that sense of ownership and naturally claim what belongs to them.”
