Oscar-winning actor, Gene Hackman, wife, dog found dead in New Mexico home

Legendary actor Gene Hackman and his wife, classical pianist Betsy Arakawa, were found dead in their Santa Fe home on Wednesday afternoon, according to the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office. Hackman was 95, while Arakawa was 63.
Their dog was also found deceased.
Sheriff Adan Mendoza confirmed the discovery, stating there was no immediate evidence of foul play. Authorities have launched an active investigation, though the exact cause of death remains unknown.
Hackman, a two-time Academy Award winner, was known for his roles in The French Connection, The Conversation, Superman, and Unforgiven. He had lived in Santa Fe since the 1980s and had been married to Arakawa since 1991.

Deputies responded to their residence in the gated Old Sunset Trail community but have not disclosed whether it was due to a welfare check or a report of the deaths. Investigators are currently awaiting approval for a search warrant.
Hackman, who retired from acting in 2004, was one of Hollywood’s most respected stars, earning acclaim for his performances in both dramatic and comedic roles.
In addition to his film career, he authored several historical fiction novels.
Sheriff Mendoza reassured the public, stating, “There is no immediate danger to the community.”
