The National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rauf Aregbesola Aregbesola, has clarified that the party had no plan to align with any political party before winning Saturday’s governorship poll in Osun State.

He disclosed that nobody can buy over the electoral value and fortune of the ADC considering its structure, mass appeal and connectivity with Nigerians.

In a viral video posted by Osun Defender, which was sighted by The Guardian on Monday, Aregbesola, who was a former governor of Osun and immediate past Minister of Interior, made this disclosure while addressing supporters during a campaign.

He contended that ADC’s ideology is rooted in the service to humanity and the society at large rather than amassing wealth at the expense of the masses.

Speaking in Yoruba, Aregbesola stated: “They were saying we are holding meeting with some people. If we are doing politics because of money, your son (Najeem Salaam), who is the governorship candidate of ADC in Osun is fat, that is how he was created and you can see that he’s fine.

“But I did commissioner in Lagos for eight years and one contract that I awarded then was N11 billion and that was almost 25 years ago. After being a commissioner, I became a governor for eight years. After that I was a minister.

“If I am looking for money I’m not supposed to look like this. I’m supposed to be fatty. We are not poor but we don’t beg. We are not wealthy but we don’t beg. We at this stage will not be chasing after money.

“How God will make us the saviour of the masses is our mission on earth. Whoever you see with us is an honest person. We are here to serve the society. That was the covenant between us and God when we were coming.

“That was why we are concerned about the people in our society. We are not in alliance with any political party. No political party can shoulder our responsibility. We are more in population than any other political party in Nigeria.

“If we are looking for money we and those people at the top used to be pallies. But when we discovered that our relationship and engagement were not working we left them.

“Assuming we were looking for money, we would not part way with them. Nobody has the money to buy us. This election we would contest and win.
