Osun APC chieftain escapes assassination

• PDP asks security agencies to shut down opposition’s secretariats
• Mala-Buni, others meet Ladoja in Ibadan behind closed doors

One of the leaders of The Osun Progressives (TOP), a splinter group in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Biyi Odunlade, has reportedly escaped an attempted assassination.

It was gathered that some suspected gunmen stormed the Ile-Ife residence of Odunlade around 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, vandalised his house, cars and looted his wife’s shop.

The former Commissioner for Youth, Sports and Special Needs told journalists that the assailants, who arrived his home at about 8:15 p.m., also maltreated his house girl and harassed his wife who immediately locked herself in her room for safety.

HOWEVER, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Ismail Omipidan, has described the assassination alarm as baseless and unfounded and argued that the splinter group was up to a sinister move to cause havoc.

Also, the leadership of the APC in the state has lambasted the group for making such assassination allegation and denied any of such plot to attack anyone.

MEANWHILE, the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has flayed the ruling party for the crisis that had greeted it and its ward congress.

In a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Ayodeji Areola, the party asked security agencies to shut down the APC secretariat owing to the attacks it witnessed.

IN another development, a possible re-alignment of political forces against Governor Seyi Makinde ahead of the 2023 governorship election in Oyo State took place, yesterday, when about three governors, on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC), were hosted by former Governor of Oyo State, Alhaji Rasheed Ladoja, behind a closed-door.

Sources from both the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and opposition APC told The Guardian that the meeting was aimed to woo Ladoja into APC and also to strengthen opposition forces against Makinde.

The meeting lasted for less than one hour.

Though details of the meeting have not been made official, there are indications that the meeting is connected with the position of APC in 2023 and perhaps to convince Ladoja to join forces with the opposition party in the state.
