The Concerned Leadership of Political Parties (CLPP), comprising the Action People’s Party (APP), Young Progressives Party (YPP), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Liberation Peoples Party (LPP), Young Progressives (YP) and other political parties, has expressed concern over the integrity of the forthcoming governorship election.

The coalition, through its Spokesperson, Oluseye Titus Odesola, while addressing journalists in Osogbo, yesterday, said it was alarmed by the recent developments that can undermine the credibility of the governorship polls, particularly regarding the transportation of election materials and the neutrality of election logistics.

The group, however, alleged that the recent forceful takeover of motor parks across Osun State could be politically motivated and warned that such actions might affect the movement of election materials during the polls.

It, therefore, called on democracy advocates, civil society organisations, labour unions and international election observers to closely monitor developments in Osun State ahead of the election.

AGAINST the backdrop of the August 15, 2026, governorship election in Osun State, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO, yesterday, allayed the fears of the electorate, saying they should not be distracted by rumours of violence.

Oyebamiji, who advised during a campaign rally in Ifelodun/Odo-Otin/Boripe Federal Constituency, assured the people that despite fear occasioned by recent incidents of violence, the election would be peaceful.

HOWEVER, , the Osun State chapter of the Accord Party (AP), in a statement signed by its Chairman, Victor Akande, yesterday, accused the police of failing to act impartially and alleged that individuals linked to the APC had continued to engage in violent activities without prosecution.

Responding, the Police Command rejected all allegations of political bias, maintaining that it remained committed to professionalism, neutrality and the rule of law.

The APC gubernatorial candidate, whose campaign train moved from Ikirun through Iree, Ada, Aagba, and to Iragbiji town, the country home of the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, said: “Don’t be distracted by the rumour that the election will be violent; the government in place is now due and will be sacked by August 15 and a new era of development will usher in.

He promised that the APC-led government would provide a better alternative to the current Accord Party-led administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke.

The Command, in a statement by the Spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, stated that it had never protected any political party, individual or group, stressing that its security operations were intelligence-driven and evidence-based rather than influenced by political statements or social media reports.

However, a coalition of civil society organisations has urged the Federal Government and the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, to take urgent steps to prevent violence in Osun State ahead of the election.

The coalition’s Convener, Declan Ihekaire, said that recent disturbances in the state were politically motivated and intended to trigger federal intervention.
