NUJ seeks protection of journalists amid political crisis

The Imole Campaign Council (TICC) in charge of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election bid, yesterday, said that alleged use of violence and threat won’t secure victory for the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).

Besides, the organisation advised the APC to show remorse for its past alleged dismal performance while in power and apologise to the people of Osun State.

In a statement by its Spokesperson, Pelumi Olajengbesi, the TICC said that while the people were aligning with Adeleke’s re-election bid, the Osun APC was allegedly busy promoting violence and terrorising the people.

MEANWHILE, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has called on security agencies and political actors to guarantee the safety of journalists covering the polls.

The Osun chapter of the union, in a communique jointly signed by the Secretary, Lekan Akindoju, NAWOJ Chairperson, Abisola Ariwodola, and one other person after its monthly meeting, also condemned the spate of violence that characterised the pre-election mood in the state and urged the police to play a neutral role.

They urged politicians to play by the rules and caution their supporters that the election should not be a do-or-die affair.
