Traditional rulers from Osun West Senatorial District have commended President Bola Tinubu for approving the reconstruction of the 90.9-kilometre Osogbo-Iwo-Ibadan Road and lauded the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, for facilitating the approval of the project.
The monarchs, led by Oluwo of Iwo, Abdurasheed Adewale Akanbi, conveyed their appreciation in a letter and addressed to President Tinubu.
The letter was presented to Oyetola at his country home in Iragbiji, Osun State, for onward delivery to the President.
In the letter jointly signed by traditional rulers across the senatorial district, the royal fathers described the approval of the road project as a demonstration of the Federal Government’s commitment to infrastructural development, economic revitalisation and regional integration.
They noted that the road, which links Osun and Oyo states and serves as a major economic corridor in the South-West, had for years posed challenges to commuters, traders, farmers, students and transporters due to its deteriorating condition.
According to the monarchs, the reconstruction project would improve transportation, facilitate trade, stimulate economic growth and enhance security across communities along the corridor.
“This monumental intervention stands as a bold testament to your administration’s unwavering commitment to infrastructural renewal, economic revitalisation and national integration,” the monarchs stated.
They added that the project would strengthen public confidence in the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda and create greater economic opportunities for communities in the area.
The traditional rulers further described the approval as a legacy project whose benefits would extend to future generations through improved movement of goods and services, reduced travel time and stronger commercial and social interactions within the South-West region.
The monarchs also acknowledged Oyetola’s role in the process, recalling that he had pledged to facilitate the reconstruction of the road while representing President Tinubu at the coronation of the 41st Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Adesuyi Clement Haastrup, on May 23, 2025.
They said the intervention would be remembered as one of the landmark infrastructure projects undertaken by the Tinubu administration in the South-West.
