Over 5,000 North East indigenes to get NEDC scholarship

North East Development Commission (NEDC) Education Endorsement Fund (EEF) is set to sponsor over 5,000 indigenes of the zone to further their education.
Disclosing this in Gombe State, yesterday, the Acting Chairperson of EEF, Hajia Asmau Mohammed, said the beneficiaries would be sponsored in science and arts.
According to her, 4,953 undergraduate, 102 post-graduate and 42 doctoral students will enjoy the full scholarship. Asmau added that 1,800 teachers in the zone had been trained for better competence.
She said: “I am pleased to inform you that the Fund, early this year, commenced the implementation of its programmes.
Already, 1,800 teachers of the Basic Education segment from the six states of the North East have been trained to improve their skills and impart knowledge in their respective fields,” adding that another batch of 1,800, including school administrators, will soon be selected across the states for the same training.
The Managing Director of NEDC, Mohammed Alkali, disclosed the reconstruction of the Gombe/Abba/Kirfi road in Bauchi State to enhance socio-economic activities between the two states.
