Plateau records 247 cases of child abuse, says FIDA, others
International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) have condemned the incessant abuse of children’s rights, particularly in Plateau State.
They spoke in Jos, yesterday, while addressing journalists at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre.
NHRC chairperson, Grace Pam, disclosed that between January and October this year, there were about 247 cases of child abuse.
According to the groups, Plateau that is popularly known as Home of Peace and Tourism is becoming a child’s rights abuse state, which is unacceptable.
Plateau NAWOJ Chairperson, Nene Dung, said happenings in the state pose a serious concern not only to mothers but to people who fight for the rights of women.
