Police arraign four for allegedly beating, unleashing dogs on IE workers

Four men have been arraigned before an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court for alleged assault on two employees of Ikeja Electric (IE). The suspects: Joel Aisabor, Victor Omonzokpea, Ehis Omonzokpea and Prosper Nwaocha were arraigned on a five-count charge of conspiracy, conducts likely to cause breach of peace, assault of IE’s staff, unleashing of dog against IE staff resulting in injury and unlawful damage of uniform of staff of IE.

One of the counts read: “That you Joel Aisabor, Victor Omonzokpea, Ehis Omonzokpea and Prosper Nwaocha on February 15, 2020, at Ikotun in the Lagos State Magisterial District did conduct yourself in a manner likely to cause breach of the peace by assaulting and beating up IE staff, one Olukanmi Babatunde and one Akanbi Adedayo and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 168 (d) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.”

The charges were read by the police prosecutor, Supol Kenneth Asibor. The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge and elected summary trial. The defence counsel, Barr. Ugochukwu, prayed the court to grant bail to the defendants in most liberal terms.

Magistrate T.O. Shomade admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N50,000 each with one responsible surety each, evidence of payment of two years tax clearance with Lagos State Government and adjourned the case to March 30, 2020 for mention.
 
The defendants were remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Home pending the fulfillment of their bail conditions.
