Police arrest 51 suspects for rape, others in Borno
The Borno State Police Command has arrested 51 suspects for alleged rape, kidnappings and armed robberies in the state.
The command said the suspects were arrested in Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC), Jere, Hawul and Askira/Uba councils between last December and this year.
Parading them, yesterday, at the Maiduguri Police Headquarters, the Police Commissioner, Abdu Umar, said: “Aisha Sani of Kaleri area, Maiduguri reported at the Gwange Police that Husaif Abdulrauf of 303 Housing Estate, deceived her younger sister, Aisha Mohammed Adam, 18, of the same address. Abdulrauf lured Aisha into his room and allegedly had sexual intercourse with her. The victim later stabbed herself with a knife in the stomach, which resulted to serious injuries.
“While the suspect was rushing Aisha to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) in his car, he hit Nasiru Suleiman, 30 of Mairi Kuwait area of Maiduguri…”
He further disclosed that both victims were rushed to the hospital, where Aisha gave up the ghost, while Suleiman was admitted at UMTH.
He assured that investigation was ongoing to prosecute the suspect. On Ahmed Umar Goni’s arrest, he said the Chief Security Officer of El-Kanemi College of Islamic Theology, Maiduguri reported Ahmed Umar Goni, a Senior Secondary School (SS11) student of the same college for inflicting deep cuts with a razor blade on an 11-year Jibrin Sadi Mato’s neck at the hostel. He said that while the victim was at the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU), the suspect was arrested.
Other arrests, included Abdullahi Sanusi, 13, for stabbing Mohammed Abudullahi, 19, to death over unpaid consumption of sugarcane, three suspects for criminal conspiracy and armed robberies in Gwange community, three kidnappers in Hauwul council and demanded for a ransom of N6,000.
He said Passey Anthony was also arrested for possessing 67 fake official stamps of the military, police, Borno State and local councils, Ramat Polytechnic and secondary schools.
According to him, the stamps were forged with the connivance of one Babale and Elson at the Post Office, Maiduguri.
He further disclosed that eight suspects were apprehended for possessing dangerous weapons to incite public disturbances.
Also, 14 persons were arrested for shop and house burglaries in the Abbaganaram Ward of Maiduguri.
