Police arrest alleged abductors, killers of businessman

The police in Ogun State have arrested six members of a kidnap gang who killed one Femi Olatunji, at Igbokoda area of Ondo State, last Friday.

The victim was said to have left his Isheri home, Lagos State, on a business trip to Ondo State and never returned to his family alive, as the kidnappers haven dispossessed him of his valuables, took his life afterwards.

Those arrested were Fadeni Henry, Lebile Olatunji, Ehuwa Oririe, Olotu Tosin, Oluwole Odunayo and Peter Omogbemi.

The suspected criminals after dispossessing the victim of his valuables, which include a certain amount of money, withdrawal from his bank account through the Automated Teller Machine (ATM), killed him and dumped his body in a river behind Holy Trinity African Primary School, Igbokoda.

Parading the suspects at the headquarters of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS), the state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, said the operatives of FSARS upon receiving the information swung into action and stormed the hideout of the hoodlums at Igbokoda.

The suspected kidnappers were said to have engaged the police in a gun-battle, which lasted for almost two hours and were later apprehended by the team, led by SP Uba Bangadiya.

They were reported to have contacted the victim’s wife for ransom before her husband could be left off the hook.

The incident was reported at a police station in Isheri and the police upon receiving the information commenced investigation, which led to the arrest of the suspects.

Items recovered from them include a Nissan Pathfinder Jeep marked LAGOS EPE 603 AT belonging to the victim, one pump-action gun, one cut-to-size locally-made pistol, seven live cartridges and a Gionee handset. The body of the victim was recovered by the police for autopsy.

The police boss cautioned citizens to be security conscious in everything they do and avoid business trips with strangers in an unfamiliar terrain.
