Police arrest four suspects for criminal conspiracy, assault in Borno

The suspects are Nasiru Abubakar, Bello Madusa, Ali Dungus Shettima and Malam Mohammed, while two other suspects are at large.

Parading the suspects, yesterday in Maiduguri, the Police Commissioner, Abdu Umar said: “On January 23, 2022, at 2.30 pm, a gang of hoodlums loyal to Ahmed Satomi, representing Jere federal constituency at the National Assembly, were engaged by Sa’adu Sulaiman and invaded Zahura Restaurant at Sanda Kyarimi Park, Maiduguri.”

He said that the restaurant that belongs to Fadila Abdulrahman, (29) and a member of the Police Community Relations (PCR) was attacked and beaten up with the destruction of the restaurant.

He noted that the suspects also snatched Fadila’s handset while assaulting her at the amusement park.

He said on receipt of the assault report, the Borno State Government ordered the case be investigated for justice to be done.

The police assured residents to cooperate with the police by providing useful information on criminal activities and public disturbances.

Responding, Satomi in a statement yesterday in Maiduguri condemned the incident and exonerated himself from the assault on Falida.

Satomi said: “I am deeply saddened by the incident and especially to a woman. This is more worrisome, as it was perpetrated in name and of the position, representative of the people of Jere council. I want to categorically exonerate my humble self from this alleged act and any of such that will occur in the future. I reiterate the fact that I would never harbour criminals with their acts. I do not support political thuggery as insinuated.”

He added that he supports Governor Babagana Zulum’s policy on banning activities of thugs in the state.
He sympathised with Fadila on the incident and urged the people to be calm, while justice is done.

SIMILARLY, a 38-year-old man, Akeem Ajibola was yesterday arraigned by the Osun State Police Command before a Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Osogbo for an alleged attempt to kidnap Abdulahi Zakariyau at his shop in Osogbo on December 28, 2021.

The prosecutor, Elisha Olusegun alleged that the defendant committed a felony adding, that the offences are contrary to and punishable under sections 516 and 364 of the criminal code, Cap 34 Vol ll, Law of Osun State, 2002.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the two charges.

The Counsel to the defendant, Barrister Tunbosun Oladipupo urged the court to grant his client bail in most liberal terms.

Chief Magistrate Asirimiyu Adebayo granted Ajibola bail in the sum of N200, 000 with one surety in like sum. He adjourned the matter till March 7, 2022, for hearing.
