Police arrest suspected car thieves
The Police in Lagos have arrested two members of a gang of armed robbers who specialised in snatching vehicles around Lekki/Ajah.
Police Commissioner Imohimi Edgal at the command headquarters in Ikeja paraded the suspects, Sunday Ikechukwu and Gabriel Collins yesterday. Ikechukwu, the alleged leader of the gang, had on September 4, fled with his boss’ car with registration number LSD33DF and relocated to Ghana. Thinking that the matter had been forgotten, he returned to Lagos and formed a four-man car snatching syndicate around Ajah that snatched a car from its owner whom they locked in the boot.
Unknown to them, the car had a tracking device, which enabled the owner open the boot from inside, and he escaped. Undeterred, the suspects were said to have gone to the same neighbourhood they snatched the vehicle to sell it but were apprehended by policemen who have been tracking the vehicle.
According to Edgal, the police recovered the car stolen by Ikechukwu in Spetember as well as the Toyota Corolla from the suspects, adding that efforts were on to arrest other members.
