Police detectives attached to the Commissioner of Police Special Monitory Squad of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested the killer of a popular Lagos businessman simply known as Emperor.

Sources said the deceased was waylaid on the just-celebrated Eid-el-Fitri day, along the LASU Road and brutally murdered in his Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) Lexus Jeep.

The suspect, Bashiru Mustau, said he is a cult member and belongs to the Eiye group, while the deceased was also a suspected cult member and sponsor of the Neo Black Movement, aka Aiye Black Axe.  He alleged that they both worked for a governorship candidate in the state, and the man paid them irrespective of the fact that they belong to different cult groups. He added that rather than paying his boys the due amount, the deceased gave them peanuts.

The 34-year-old father of three, however, pleaded for mercy, saying he joined the cult group out of sheer ignorance.

“I will not tell lies, I am a member of Eiye cult and its Number One man called Eagle of Shasha. Normally, I don’t go on operations because I am their leader. When we tabled the matter before our Oga after the elections that our share of the money was not given to us, it was decided that I lead the squad that would close “Emperor’s eyes.” That is what I did. But, I am regretting my actions now because what is the essence of killing each other in the name of cultism? Let the government have mercy on me.”

The Police Public Relations Officer SP Ben Hundeyin confirmed the arrest, but added that Bashiru had indicted several of his cult embers who the police are already on their trail.
