Police begin manhunt for killer of six persons in Anambra communities

The Anambra State Police Command yesterday, said it has begun manhunt for one Mr. Nnamdi Maduneke and cohorts, who allegedly masterminded the killing of six persons at Omar Community, Anyamelum local council.

The Anambra State Police Command yesterday, said it has begun manhunt for one Mr. Nnamdi Maduneke and cohorts, who allegedly masterminded the killing of six persons at Omar Community, Anyamelum local council.

Many people were declared missing and houses destroyed in renewed crisis between Omor and Anaku communities in Ayanmelu area of the state on Monday.

Speaking to The Guardian on the development, the spokesperson for Anambra State Police Command, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed that six people were killed, adding that the Command has declared Nnamdi Maduneke wanted for instigating the violence, and also wielding an AK47 rifle.

Ikenga said: “The Anambra State Police Command is on the manhunt for Mr. Nnamdi Maduneke and cohorts, wielding Ak47 rifles in the early hours of Monday, according to information received, the suspect and his cohorts without any provocation started shooting indiscriminately in Omor Community, Anyamelum local council and murdered six persons and inflicted serious injuries on two others.

The joint task force team comprising police and military was deployed in the area. The presence of these security forces has reinforced the security of life and property and enhanced the enforcement of law and order in the area. Preliminary information reveals that the cause of the incident is a protracted communal dispute between the two communities, Omor and Anaku in Anyamelum local council.”

He said patrol operations are ongoing and the situation is being monitored.
