Police hunt for gunmen after officers killed in failed kidnapping attempt
Delta State Police have launched a search for the gunmen who attempted to kidnap Mrs Christy Uroye, the wife of a state lawmaker. The attack resulted in the death of two police officers and Mrs Uroye’s driver.
The incident occurred Monday evening when Mrs Uroye travelled in an SUV around Jakpa Road, Uwvie Local Council. Police spokesperson Bright Edafe confirmed the incident, stating that officers engaged in a fierce gun battle with the hoodlums, who eventually fled the scene with gunshot wounds.
Edafe reported that the gunmen escaped into the busy Petroleum Training Institute (PTI) area, preventing the police from firing at them for fear of injuring civilians.
No arrests have been made yet, but the vehicle used in the attack has been recovered. Mrs. Uroye managed to escape during the incident and is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital within the council.
