Policemen in Delta State Command have reportedly killed two suspected armed robbers and injured two others in a gun duel at the weekend along Egbo/Otokutu Road, Otu Jeremi, Ughelli South Local Government Area of the state.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, told newsmen in Asaba yesterday that the patrol team from Otu-Jeremi police station, while on a stop-and-search duty, got information that four suspected armed robbers who had earlier snatched two vehicles,  a gold coloured Toyota Camry with  Reg. No. RSH 291 AW and a custom coloured Lexus 350 jeep, with Reg. No. WWR 737 KL, abandoned the vehicles at Otokutu community due to mechanical faults.

Edafe hinted that the suspects escaped in a tricycle when they sighted the police team from afar and opened fire on them.

He said in the gun battle that ensued between them, the hoodlums were forced to abandon the tricycle, a development that led to the escape of two of the hoodlums into the bush, while two were fatally wounded and found in the tricycle with gunshot injuries.

According to the police spokesman, the squad recovered one Ak-47 rifle, an empty magazine, the sum of N200,000 and gold jewelry.

He said the suspects, who sustained gunshot injuries, were rushed to hospital where they gave up the ghost while receiving treatment.

“The DPO Otu-Jeremi Division again led a combined team of policemen/vigilantes to further comb the bush for the possible arrest of the other fleeing members of the gang, but in the process recovered another AK-47 rifle with breach number NK344397, with two magazines and three live ammunition,” the PPRO added.

Edafe, who confirmed that the police crack squad arrested a 32-year-old woman, Oghoho Joseph, and one Cyril Enishoke for allegedly being in possession of large quantity of substance suspected to be Indian hemp.

He said the crack squad, on August 28, raided their hideout at Ozoro community in Isoko North Local Government of the state, where the two suspects, namely Cyril Enishoke ‘m,’ 20 years and Oghogho Joseph ‘f’, 32 years, were arrested with large quantity of substance suspected to be Indian hemp.
