Police nab four for killing two persons in Delta

The Police in Sapele, Delta State, have arrested 27-year -old Ogadinma Francis aka, “Gentle” and three others for allegedly killing his landlord and friend on November 16, 2022 in Sapele town.

The Police in Sapele, Delta State, have arrested 27-year -old Ogadinma Francis aka, “Gentle” and three others for allegedly killing his landlord and friend on November 16, 2022 in Sapele town.

Spokesperson for Delta Police Command, Bright Edafe, who confirmed the killing in Asaba, yesterday, said the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Sapele Division, received calls at about 0900hours, that one Uguru Dominic ‘m’, 29, and his male friend, name and address not known were found dead in the bathroom, suspected to have been murdered by unknown persons.

He said the suspects reportedly made away with the victim’s Toyota Corolla car marked:. ABJ 271 white in colour, following which the DPO detailed detectives to unravel the mystery behind their deaths.

According to him, the team swung into action, embarked on an intelligence led investigation, which led to the arrest of one of them and recovery of the deceased’s vehicle.

Edafe disclosed that arrested suspect confessed that he did a filling job for the deceased and after working for him, he refused to pay him the agreed amount, and then conspired with his friends to commit the crime.

He stated that following his confession, the three accomplices namely: Goodnews Abaje ‘m’, 30, Obunwa Kasim, ‘m’, 25 and Bright Osifo, ‘m’, 23 were arrested.

“They stated that the initial plan was to rob the victim, they tied them up till about 4:30a.m .and then forced him to transfer the sum of N36,000 to one of the suspects’ account.

“They further stated that they decided to kill both of them because they felt the victims recognised them and will report them to the Police,” the Police spokesperson said.

He said the state’s Commissioner of Police (CP), Ari Muhammed Ali had since directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for further investigation.

ALSO, Rivers State Police Command has arrested two male suspects, who inserted substance into the private part of a lady identified as Ruth Tamuno, on Monday, November 14.

The Command, in a statement signed by its spokesperson, Grace Irenge-Koko, alleged that the suspects, numbering about six, beat up the victim, who they alleged stole an iphone and inserted the substance as a punitive measure.

“CP Okon Effiong has ordered the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), to conduct a discreet investigation on one Samuel Matthew, ‘m’, 23 and Emmanuel Iweruma, ‘m’, 23, who were arrested in connection with the case, while efforts are on to arrest other fleeing suspects.

“The CP reiterated that no matter the circumstances, resorting to self-help to carry out such act without recourse to extant laws and the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, is totally condemnable and tantamount to violation of the law.  

“CP Okon urged citizens of the state to always be law-abiding and not to take laws into their hands and should also assist the Police in the fight against criminals and their activities in the state,” the statement added.
