With less than 10 days to the conduct of the August 15 gubernatorial poll in Osun, Governor Ademola Adeleke, on Wednesday, said there is no justification for the alleged plan by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to freeze the state government bank accounts.

He alleged that there was a discreet plot by the anti-graft agencies not only to flag the state government bank accounts but also to freeze accounts of top members of his cabinet.

A statement by Adeleke’s Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, hinted that “credible reports indicated that the EFCC had perfected plans to freeze all Osun State government accounts.”

In a statement issued Tuesday evening at Osogbo, the governor said the EFCC is also reportedly planning to freeze accounts of all top government functionaries.

Describing the development as illegal and baseless, Adeleke declared: “Such a plan, if true, amounts to the height of lawlessness”, stressing that the plot to freeze the state government accounts is meant to paralyze government activities ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

“The governor affirmed that there is no legal basis or justification for any push to freeze the state government accounts, declaring that the anti-graft agency has no legal powers to freeze the account of a state government, “the statement concluded.
