NULGE lauds Delta govt for releasing N800m to pay arrears

The Association of Primary School Head Teachers of Nigeria (AOPSHON) has berated the Kaduna State Government for the sack of 2l,780 primary school teachers and urged it to have a rethink and recall them without further delay.
In a communique issued at the weekend after the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held at Teachers’ House, Asaba, Delta State capital and signed by its National President, Laghaowei Fyneman Zik and Secretary, Hajia Ibrahim Maryam, the association said that the competence test administered was not done by competent body, noting that only the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) and Nigerian Teachers Institute (NTI) are eligible to conduct test for teachers.
The head teachers said while National Certificate in Education (NCE) is the minimum teaching qualification, it is only the body that issues licence that can attest for their incompetency.

The association, therefore, recommended that training and re-training of teachers remain the best option while those deemed not trainable any more should be redeployed to other ministries or parastatals where they can serve.
It said that the mode of recruitment of teachers should be given to professional bodies devoid of government influence. In another development, the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Delta State, has commended Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for the release of N800 million to facilitate the payment of outstanding local council workers’ salary arrears.

In a communiqué issued by the State Executive Council (SEC) of NULGE and signed by its Secretary, Peter Ene, the union applauded Okowa for his pragmatic steps in ensuring respect for workers’ right and display of genuine concern for local council service and exhibition of good intentions for the welfare of workers.

The union, which restated its renewed support for the Okowa’s administration, also re-affirmed its loyalty and commitment, saying that it would do everything within its power to facilitate the success of the SMART agenda for grassroots development and empowerment.
