Three pupils from Primeville Preparatory School, Ushafa, Abuja, have emerged as finalists in the 2022 annual Mathematical Association of Nigeria (MAN) mathematics competition to represent Federal Capital Territory (FCT), in the primary category at the National Maths Competition in Abeokuta.
The three pupils include Prince Victor, Chukwudumebi Ofoegbu, and Sophie Chahabeda, who clinched the first, second, and fourth slots respectively to progress to the national competition.

Presenting the letter of invitation during a courtesy call on the school at its 5th graduation ceremony, the FCT Chairman of MAN, Mr. David Durojaiye, lauded the efforts of all the participants from the school for progressing through the first round of the competition and eventually picking three spots from the top four FCT representatives. He described the school as an emerging ‘mathematic village.’
Commenting on the outcome of the competition, the Director of Primeville Preparatory School, Mr. Caleb Ede, said the feat attained by the pupils is a reflection of the school’s strategic approach to the teaching of mathematics.
“We also ensure that all learners demonstrate the cognitive ability that is exceptional through the setting of demanding academic targets in each subject that they study, and our team of experienced teachers scaffolds each learner through varied methods and strategies to achieve beyond expectation,” the director said.

The opportunities for pupils to reveal, apply and extend their abilities are met through a blended curriculum which is differentiated, creative, challenging and offers a range of responses that surpasses most demanding academic standards,” he revealed further.
At the first round of the competition, Primeville Preparatory School enrolled five pupils in the primary category who all progressed to the second round, and three of the pupils finally secured top spaces to represent FCT Abuja at the MAN national competition at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ogun State between August 28 and September 2, 2022.
