Rainstorm kills five people, injures 41 others in Yobe
A two-hour rainstorm has killed five people and injured 41 others in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital.
The injured, including children have been evacuated to the State’s Specialist Hospital, Damaturu for treatment.
Confirming the incident, yesterday, the Executive Secretary of Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Mohammed Goje said: “Yesterday’s rainstorm has destroyed houses in the Ibrahim, Abbari, Gujba road housing estates, including the House of Assembly quarters and dozens in Pompomari and Maisandari wards of Damaturu metropolis.”
According to Goje, most of the buildings in the housing estates and quarters collapsed, killing four people with 41 others hospitalised.
He noted that the agency responded to the rescue and search team to reduce the level of casualties of the devastating rainstorm.
