Ramadan: Reps mount Rice pyramid, disburse empowerment facility to Constituency

Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Security and Intelligence, Ibrahim Sha’aban Sharada, yesterday, disbursed food items and other consumables to thousands of his constituency in the spirit of the Ramadan fasting period.

Besides, the member representing Kano Municipal Federal Constituency distributed vehicles, motorcycles and several working tools to over 10,000 people as part of his youth and women empowerment initiative.

Addressing thousands of beneficiaries and members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) at the popular polo ground in Kano on Thursday, Sharada disclosed that as the responsible representative of the people, he owned the duty to serve.

The Federal lawmaker, who was concerned with the level of economic difficulty facing the common man, revealed that he decided to mount over 10,000 rice pyramids and other food for onward disbursement to households as Muslims embark on the Ramadan session.

Sharada explained that the occasion was equally designed to fulfill the promise of the empowerment scheme with more than 10,000 youths and women provided with sustainable sources of livelihood.

He reminded that besides the 100 students sent to Sudan to further their education on scholarship, hundreds of young people from Kano Municipality who were trained on computer applications and training would receive a set of computers to begin their business centres.

According to him, “1,000 people would get commercial motorcycles, another 1,000 would benefit commercial tricycles and 5,000 fashion designers are being empowered with swing machines.

“We have also trained thousands of youths on modern production of (Gurasa) local bread and after the training, we have 500 locally fabricated ovens to distribute to them to start their business. We are also giving out flours and gas to go into business straight.

Applauding the empowerment initiative, Senator representing Kano Central, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau described the capacity building initiative of Sharada as worthy of emulation.

Shekarau urged the beneficiaries to rather make judicious use of the items and justify the confidence repose on them by the lawmaker.
