Ranching will resolve herder-farmer crises, says El-Rufai
Kaduna State Governor Mallam Nasiru El- Rufai Tuesday said the establishment of ranches in states will resolve the lingering herder-farmer crises in Nigeria.
The governor, who spoke in Yola, said open grazing of livestocks is no longer realistic.
El-Rufai urged Southwest governors to protect residents in their states and prosecute criminals irrespective of their ethnicity or religion.
He disclosed that northern governors have resolved to established one ranch in each state in the region and provide incentives to convince herders to start ranching their livestocks for improve production of milk and healthy animals.
He said that the ranching system will also enable children of herders to go to school and have access to quality education like any other Nigerian.
“Im a Fulani man, today I’m the governor of Kaduna State because I went to school; my parents were settled in one place breeding their livestocks,” he said.
The governor stated that for northern governors to achieve their dreams to established ranches, they need the financial assistance of the federal government.
