Abia State chapter of the Association of Retired Permanent Secretaries of Nigeria has protested against the deduction of their pensions by the state government.

The pensioners, who met with the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Dr Anthony Agbazuere, in Umuahia, yesterday, insisted that they were not consulted before the decision to deduct their pensions was taken.

Chairman of the body, Sir Allan Okpokiri, told Agbazuere that the state government had been making the deductions since May.

Okpokiri appealed to the former Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress in the state to tell Governor Okezie Ikpeazu to address the issue.

However, the pensioners commended the state government for paying them their entitlements regularly since Dr. Aham Uko became Commissioner for Finance.

Agbazuere told the senior citizens that the governor would soon meet with labour leaders towards addressing the deductions.
