Road crash claims two persons in Ondo
Two persons lost their lives yesterday in a fatal road accident that occurred at Ikare-Akoko, headquarters of Akoko North-East Council of Ondo State. Ten others sustained injuries.
The accident involved a 14-passenger Toyota Hiace commercial bus with number plate, Kaduna ZAR 288 XF, coming from the northern part of the country.
According to an eyewitness, the bus driver lost control of the vehicle before ramming into commercial motorcyclists.
He said: “The driver seemed to be sleeping and lost control of the vehicle when he got to Jubilee junction.
“In an attempt to regain control of the bus, he crushed some Okada riders, who were at the junction.”
When contacted, the Ikare Unit Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Alabi Oluropo, confirmed the incident.
He said the two deaths included the bus driver.
“The accident happened as a result of over-speeding. He lost control of the vehicle and rammed into Okada riders. Nineteen people were involved. Two died and 10 were injured. The driver of the vehicle and one passenger in the bus died.
“The deceased persons were evacuated to the morgue of Ikare General Hospital, while the injured passengers were taken to the hospital for treatment,” Oluropo clarified.
The FRSC boss added that the damaged bus had been handed over to the police in the town.
