Rotary Club earmarks N12.5m for community, school projects
The Rotary Club of Uyo has earmarked N12.5m to execute life-touching projects in selected schools and communities in Akwa Ibom State. The newly installed President, Rotn Idongesit Domingo-Inyang, revealed this during her installation ceremony as the 36th President of Rotary Club Uyo.
According to the retired banker, the focus areas for the projects are water and sanitation, provision of desk and seats in selected primary schools, maternal and child health disease prevention and treatment, economic and community development, as well as peace and conflict resolution.
With ‘Connect the World’ as the 2019-2020 Rotary Club theme, the President implored the club’s friends to support it, not only in kind but also in cash, to enable it meet its objective of making the society a better place.
“It may interest you to know that the blood bank at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital was donated by Rotary Club through the Safe Blood Africa project of Rotary International,” she said.
During the ceremony, eight persons were inducted as new members, while seven ambassadors were elected for the club’s six areas of focus.
