The Rotary Club of Abeokuta Royal, Ogun State, has embarked on Back-to-School intervention with the donation of essential educational kits and uniforms to pupils of Abeokuta South Local Government Nursery and Primary School, Agooba, Abeokuta.

Items donated included: school uniforms, school bags, school sandals, educational toys and other learning materials.

The donation was part of the education-focused project unveiled yesterday during the joint official visit of the Rotary International District 9111 Governor, Rotarian Bukola Bakare, and her entourage, in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Abeokuta Metro.

The visit, themed around Rotary’s 2026–2027 call to “Create Lasting Impact,” provided an opportunity for the Rotary Club of Abeokuta Royal to showcase its community development initiatives and commitment to sustainable service.

Speaking on the initiative, the President of the Rotary Club of Abeokuta Royal, Rotarian Abiola Olorunnisola, said the Back-to-School initiative was designed as an intervention to support Basic Education and Literacy, one of the key areas of focus of Rotary International.

Olorunnisola, a former National President of Junior Chamber International Nigeria (JCI), said that the education intervention to the school was to encourage the children of the less privileged to go back to school.

He noted that the Back-to-School initiative was carried out in collaboration with the Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).

“This initiative is designed to remove some of the barriers that prevent children from learning effectively, while giving them the confidence and basic resources needed to remain in school.”

“It is also a reflection of Rotary’s belief that investing in children and education is an investment in the future of society.” he added.

The Rotary president noted that while the donated materials might appear simple, they could make a significant difference in the lives of the beneficiaries.

He said that the items may seem simple, but school uniforms restore dignity, school bags provide essential learning tools, while educational toys and materials make learning more engaging and meaningful.

Olorunnisola said that the education project aligned with Rotary District 9111’s vision of creating lasting impact, noting that Rotary’s success should be measured not only by projects completed but also by lives transformed and opportunities created.

“The Back to school project is therefore a worthy cause, fit for support and celebration—a gathering where leadership meets service, collaboration meets community development, and Rotary turns compassion into lasting impact,” he stressed.

However, the visit  afforded District 9111 Governor, Rotarian Bukola Bakare, the opportunity to interact with members of the club, review its activities and encourage members to deepen their impact in their respective communities.
