The commissioning of Carrena Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Lagos Island, a star project of the Rotary Club of Gbagada, District 9110, was greeted with excitement by residents of the area, especially women, who are the immediate beneficiaries.

Speaking at the event, the District Governor, Dr. Wale Ogunbadejo, described the project as laudable and one that would address the need of the people.

“It is important to the community that even before the completion of the project, they were ready to start making use of the place. The project is one of our six areas of focus in Rotary under ‘Child and maternal health,’” he said.

He advised the beneficiaries to make good use of the facility, adding that whenever members of the club visits the place in the near future, they would be glad to see it well maintained and functional.

President of the club, Rotn. Adefowoke Williamson, said she made it her star project after seeing women and children loiter in front of a decrepit facility. She decided to turn it around. “I believe this project would provide the necessary primary health care for the people of this community,” she said.

Chairman, Lagos Island East Local Council Development Area, Kamal Salau-Bashua, appreciated the gesture, which according to him showed that the club believes that the government cannot do it all alone. He promised the good handling of the project.

Past District Governor Adeniji Raji at the occasion advised the beneficiaries to make good use of the facility and suggested that the LCDA should set up a committee that would look after the health centre.
