Over 500 female students from Senior Secondary (SS1) to SS3 of Immaculate Senior Secondary School and Mende Secondary School, Maryland, Lagos were given sanitary towels in commemoration of Rotary Foundation’s month, an extension of District 9110 programme under Family Health and AIDS Prevention.

Speaking during the programme, Secretary, Family Health and AIDS Prevention, District 9110, Olusola Benson said the project was aimed at sensitising female students in the area of proper hygiene during their menstrual cycle.

“Most female students as they attain the age of adolescence starts menstruation with many of them unable to cope with the sudden experience due to ignorance.

“This project is, therefore, organised to educate them and also equip them with sanitary towels. What we are giving them today will be enough for them until they can afford to buy more,” he said.

Benson added that focus was on public schools because of the realization that many students in this category of school might not be able to easily afford to buy sanitary towels often.

The District Chair, Family Health and AIDS Prevention, District 9110, past Assistant Governor, Bola Oyebade said the programme was held because “it was observed that many female students were not hygienic,” adding that it was, therefore, necessary to tackle that area with a view to educating them and assist them to stay healthy.
