The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi yesterday debunked issuing or authorising any statement calling for the slash in salaries of ministers and members of the National Assembly.

The Emir who spoke through his Chief of Staff, Munir Sunusi, told journalists in Kano that the emir never addressed the media or authorise anybody to do so on his behalf.

According to him “ This statement is nothing but a figment of lies and mischief circulating in an attempt to creating misunderstanding between the emir and the esteemed Nigerian legislators.

“For the benefit of doubt, the day on which the statement was said to have been released by the Emir, he was all through indoors”, he added.Emir Sunusi maintained that on that day, he did not receive any visitor that would make him speak about any issue of national concern.

“My relationship with the members of the National Assembly and Kano State House of Assembly has been cordial and we had no cause to talk about any issue concerning them, that will make me speak about their pay.

“In any case I’m not the rightful person to talk about how much anybody is supposed to earn as salary, I think that is left for the government and its wages committee to decide.”The Emir urged the media to always be a responsible entity that would safeguard the national unity and cohesion of the nation rather than trying to misinform the society.
