Security personnel foil another attack on Riyom
Security personnel have foiled another attempted attack on Riyom Local Council of Plateau State. But the assailants succeeded in injuring one person and razing no fewer than 30 houses. The injured person had been taken to the Plateau State Specialist Hospital for treatment.
Chairman of the council and former Chairman, House Committee on Information, Emmanuel Danboyi Jugu confirmed this yesterday, confirming that one person was indeed injured but he had not counted the number of houses burnt.
His words: It was true that the security people foiled an attempted attack. It happened last night. It was also true that one person was wounded with cutlass and was taken to the Specialist Hospital. But I have not got the accurate number of buildings burnt.”
However, a resident of the community told The Guardian that the security personnel posted to the area have allegedly decided to pull out of the community in protest of the allegation of bias in their operations.
But the Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO) of the State Police Command, Mathias Terna Tyopev, said he was not aware of their men pulling out, adding that officers were still intact and had no reason to pull out of anywhere to which they were deployed.
Spokesman of the Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), Captain Umar Adam, described the contradiction in the accusation as laughable, saying the people were accusing the same security operatives that foiled the attack of bias.
