Senate confirms Shaba as space agency’s DG
The Senate has confirmed the appointment of Dr. Halilu Ahmad Shaba as Director General of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA).
The official seal followed the consideration of a report by the Senate Committee on Science and Technology. The chairman, Senator Uche Ekwunife, in her presentation, said the few petitions against the nomination were not backed with verifiable evidence.
According to her, Shaba “showed evidence of more than 21 years of post-doctoral research experience in space science – six years above the minimum requirement.”
Ekwunife said the nominee was screened in line with the provisions of the Act establishing the agency, the Senate Standing Rules 2015 (as amended) and the Principles of the Committee.
She stated: “Therefore, the committee is satisfied with the qualification, performance and suitability of the nominee for the position of Director General, National Space Research and Development Agency.”
