Former President of the Senate, Ameh Ebute has asked the Federal Government to petition the United States (U.S.) over unsavory comments against Nigeria by congressman Tom Marino.

Ebute was Senate president during the end of the Third Republic.

Marino in a letter to the U.S. Secretary of State, John Kerry accused President Muhammadu Buhari of running an autocratic government and said the administration should not be offered any assistance in the war against insurgency.

Ebute in a letter to the Minister of Foreign Affairs dated September
6, 2016 asked the government to stop Marino from meddling in Nigeria’s internal affairs.

The former Senate President pointed out that though Marino has a right to express his concerns. “His letter contained so many inaccuracies and even outright lies. He would have done better by whispering those thoughts to Kerry instead of documenting them in a letter.”
