The First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called for sustained investment in Nigerian youths, urging them to harness education, innovation, entrepreneurship and active citizenship to realise their potential and contribute to national development.

The wife of the President made the call in a message to commemorate the 2026 International Youth Day, marked globally on Wednesday with the theme, “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations.”

The First Lady said the theme underscored the shared aspirations of young people across different social, economic and cultural backgrounds, particularly their desire for quality education, meaningful employment, equal opportunities and a sustainable future.

According to her, while young people may face different circumstances, their aspirations for a better future remain largely the same.

“I encourage our youth to remain focused and hardworking. Use education, innovation, entrepreneurship, and active citizenship to pursue your dreams, fulfil your potential, and help build a more peaceful and prosperous Nigeria,” she said.

Oluremi Tinubu stressed the need for renewed commitment by government and other stakeholders to creating an enabling environment in which young Nigerians could develop their skills, pursue their ambitions and make meaningful contributions to society.

She said empowering the youth remained critical to building a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable Nigeria, adding that young people should be supported with opportunities that would enable them to translate their potential into productive outcomes.

“As we commemorate this day, let us renew our commitment to supporting and empowering young people by creating opportunities for them to realise their full potential and contribute meaningfully to society,” the First Lady said.

International Youth Day is observed annually on August 12 to draw attention to issues affecting young people and promote their participation in social, economic and political development.

Oluremi Tinubu congratulated Nigerian youths on the occasion and urged them to remain committed to personal development and the collective task of nation-building.
