A traditional ruler in Osun State, the Olowu of Owu-Kuta, Oba Hameed Oyelude Makama, has pleaded with the state governor, Gboyega Oyetola, and other aggrieved political gladiators in the state, to sheathe their swords in the interest of peace and tranquility.

He said continuous bickering by politicians in the state would breed tension, which would not fetch the state any good.

Oba Makama, who made the appeal, yesterday, at his investiture ceremony as Life Patron of Osun State Broadcasting Corporation (OSBC) Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Osogbo, said he had asked the governor to avoid de-escalation of tension in the state.

He, therefore, urged all political gladiators in the state to embrace peace and avoid skirmishes that expose the state to tension.

“I want to urge all journalists to unite Nigerians. Nothing pays us as a united entity but there should be justice, equity, and fairness. Endeavour to propagate common ideals that will enhance oneness under justice, fairness, and equity. I dedicate this honour to Ambassador T.Y. Buratai and Nigerian Army at large,” the monarch stated.

MEANWHILE, former Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen T. Y. Buratai (rtd), and the current Nigerian Ambassador to the Republic of Benin has called for recognition of the traditional institution in the quest for security and peace in the country.

Buratai described Oba Makama as a bridge-builder whose quest for peace and development in his kingdom and Nigeria was unparalleled.

“His patriotism and kind disposition to the military and security agencies in Nigeria is unquantifiable. This and many other qualities endeared him to all Nigerians and peace-loving people across the world.

“I, therefore, call for more recognition of the royal fathers and traditional rulers in the society, given the immense role they play in the society. This will enhance more understanding, peace, and security in our country.”
