The Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) has distanced itself from an alleged declaration by Shi’ite Youth Political Forum in Katsina State that it endorsed President Muhammadu Buhari for the 2019 presidential election.

The group described the purported endorsement as as a ruse.

In a statement, Muhammad Ibrahim Gamawa, a member of IMN’s Resource Forum said: “ It’s sufficient to say that the IMN has never had any Shi’ite Youth Political Forum.

“All our communications are channeled from renowned sources, which have not been hidden from the general public. The position of the movement has never been decided by a group of unknown youths.

“It is the Buhari’s administration that launched an unprovoked attack on the IMN in December 2015, where members of the movement were killed and buried in mass graves.”

The statement added that three sons of the IMN’s leader, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, were killed in his presence, while he and his wife were shot severally and incarcerated for more than three years.

Meanwhile, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, yesterday assured that he would not disappoint Nigerians if elected President.

He gave the assurance when leaders of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) faction adopted him as their candidate in the presidential poll.

Atiku, who spoke through former Foreign Affairs Minister, Dubem Onyia, at the event in Enugu, commended the APGA leaders for resolving to partner with him in the struggle to get Nigeria working again.

Announcing Atiku’s adoption, Chairman of state chapters led by Chief Jerry Obasi, disclosed that they decided to “join forces with other progressives to rescue the country.”

Obasi, who is also Deputy National Chairman of APGA, added that the group was impressed by “Atiku’s promise to restructure the country and make the economy work again, as well as jobs and wealth creation.”
