Slain business woman’s family seeks government support to track killers

The Chiawa family in Aguobuowa, Ezeagu Local Council of Enugu State, yesterday, appealed to the state government to wade into the killing of their mother, Gloria Chiawa with a view to arresting and prosecuting the perpetrators.

The late Chiawa, a businesswoman and mother of five was allegedly strangled to death on August 1 and dumped along Affa Street in Uwani.

While in her shop at the Police Detective College on Agbani Road, Enugu, at about 5.00pm a day earlier, she was said to have received a phone call and left her shop in the care of her salesgirl to attend to the call and did not return.

Attempts to ascertain her whereabouts that day proved abortive. However, her lifeless body was found by residents on the busy Affa Street, where it was dumped the next morning.

One of her daughters, Chikamso Chiawa said the family was yet to come to terms with the incident, stressing that there was a need to unravel the circumstances of her death.

Meanwhile, the Police in Enugu said it has launched an investigation into the incident. Police Public Relations Officer, Ebere Amaraizu said they were working round the clock to get to the root of the matter.
