Nobel laureate, Prof.  Wole Soyinka, will, today, receive Oloye ‘Lekan Alabi, Ekefa Oĺubadan of Ibadanland, and the first Culture Ambassador of the National Museum and Monument, Ile Ife, on a courtesy visit in his Abeokuta, Ogun State home at 10.00 a.m.

Alabi’s visit is coming 52 years after Prof. Soyinka had formally invited Oloye Alabi in 1969 to pay him a visit at his former office at the University of Ibadan, following the young Alabi’s letter of appeal to the former military Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon (rtd), to either release Soyinka from indefinite detention in Kaduna Prison or take the detainee (Soyinka) to a court of law.

Alabi, while a 17-year old form three student of African Church Grammar School, Apata-Ganga, Ibadan, Oyo State, in 1967, had written the letter of appeal on behalf of Prof. Soyinka, who on his release from detention in 1969, was handed the young Alabi’s letter.

Oloye Alabi celebrated his 70th birthday on Tuesday, October 27, 2020.
