Speaker urges security agencies to investigate Taraba Killings

The Speaker of Taraba State House of Assembly, Joseph Albasu Kunini has urged security operatives to begin full investigation into recent attacks on Shomo village in Lau Local Council of Taraba State.

The upheaval led to wanton loss of lives and destruction of property. Kunini said if the mayhem was fully investigated, it would not only bring perpetrators to justice, but would also prevent possible reprisal attacks.
The Speaker spoke, yesterday, when he paid a condolence visit to the victims and to assess the level of damage on the communities. He affirmed that available evidence suggested that persons behind the crisis would not be difficult to unmask.

He said: “Quick apprehension of the culprits would give victims some sense of justice and prevent the possibility of reprisal attacks, which could only cause more deaths and destruction.”

He commended the people for not resorting to self-help and assured them of government’s commitment to ameliorating their plight in anyway possible.

He added: “My presence here is also to convey Governor Darius Ishaku’s message, who asked me to come and assess the level of damage and devastation on your community and report back to him…”

The Village Head of Shomoh, Mallam Abubakar Hassan, asked the state government to rebuild homes destroyed by the attackers. He also drew security agencies’ attention to surrounding villages, where he alleged their attackers were being harboured.
