Former president Olusegun Obasanjo has appealed to the international community to come together and establish peace in the world.

He made this known yesterday in his address as the chief guest the ongoing five-day Brahma Kumari International Conference in Shantivan ashram, India.

According to him, if half of the money spent on fighting wars is spent on humanitarian crises, enduring peace could be established in the world.

He said the World Health Organisation (WHO) in its report has said that in Africa, 44 countries are suffering from humanitarian crisis, while 11 others were under the grip of some epidemic or disease.

“This is a humanitarian crisis. With such disastrous condition, there can be no happiness. Yet, God has created Africa, Asia and in fact the entire world, to be embraced with peace, joy and happiness,” he said.

The former president believed that with spiritual knowledge, a different world order could be established. Talks on spiritual knowledge are being held in the conference, along with the cultural programmes, showcasing the rich Indian culture.
