Student makes appeal for release of Federal Poly Nekede result

The dream of every young Nigerian after spending years in any higher institution is to serve their fatherland and be enrolled for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), but this may not be possible for Miss Kalu Ndiadiamaka Ndukwe, an orphan who lost both parents at a tender age yet remained resolute in the pursuit of her education.

The Mass Communication graduate of Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, Owerri, says her school has refused issuing her result after two years of graduation, thereby preventing her from going for the mandatory NYSC with her peers. Ndukwe alleged that some elements in the institution are denying her from getting her Higher National Diploma (HND) result for unstated reasons.

She said the problem started in 2017 when she got her posting to serve in Ebonyi State only to go to the school’s records to collect her statement of result and got deferred to wait for verification of transcript.

When The Guardian contacted the Head of Department, Golden Oparaeke, he confirmed the report and said the management was looking into the case. He however declined to answer further questions and redirected enquiries to the management. Attempts to reach Rector of the polytechnic, Dr. Celestina Njoku proved she refused neither picking nor returning the calls till the time of filing this report. Messages sent were not also resplied.

And till date, the management has been paying deaf ears to her pleas for certification to enable her join her contemporaries at the compulsory one-year national service.“At the point of collecting my statement of result in May 2017 to report to the Orientation camp since I was posted to Ebonyi State in the Batch A stream 1, my problem started. They said I should wait for verification of transcript as I did my Diploma in another school. I was surprised that since February 2015 when I sent my transcript through my former school, Federal Polytechnic Nekede, has not done my verification. It took a long time and before they will finish authenticating my result, camp has been closed and I was now asked to wait for another Batch or stream.

“I thought they will give me my result after the authentication but I was denied my result as they told me from the verification unit that I was not supposed to be admitted in the first place into a Polytechnic because of the university affiliation which my former school, International Institute of Journalism, Abuja, had with University of Maiduguri”, she said.

Ndukwu explained that she was meritoriously admitted into the Institution in 2014/2015 academic sessions for her HND, wrote the necessary examination during the two-years course and has her name in the convocation list of the school, which further certifies her a ‘bonafide graduate of the school’.

“This has caused me a lot of psychological trauma, depression, frustration and mental stress. Till date, they have not done anything and they are not saying anything. I do not have anyone to speak for me. I could have engaged the service of a lawyer who will speak for me but the money to pay for one is the problem as I have every evidence that could help me through the case. I call on all well meaning Nigerians to give me a voice to ensure I attain my life goals and visions, which are already being delayed” she pleaded
