Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), Prof. Suleiman Bogoro, has appealed to the Federal Government to increase its annual funding for Research and Development (R&D) to $1b yearly.

He made the call during the inauguration of TETFund’s Research and Development (R&D) Standing Committee in Abuja yesterday and commended President Muhammadu Buhari for the recent increase of the research grant from N5b to N7.5b.

Stressing that massive investment in R&D would ehnance development in the country, he canvassed the promulgation of a law that would bring into full force a National R&D Foundation (NRDF) to deepen research in Nigeria.

Inaugurating the committee, Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, who was represented by the Minister of State for Education, Chukuemeka Nwajuiba, charged members of the committee to do their best in the assignment.

Adamu said continued investment in research would herald a rebirth of Nigeria, adding, “Nigeria voted us into power predicated on our being able to transform our national aspirations and make them a national achievement.

“It is in recognition of this direction that Bogoro presented his vision of a research driven nation and how to finance that ambition through the Board of Trustees (BOT).”
