The Guardian correspondent in Bauchi State, Rauf Oyewole, defeated Samuel Luka of Daily Times in a keenly contested election held yesterday in Bauchi to emerge the chairman of the state’s Correspondents’ Chapel.
The election also saw Mohammed Kawu of New Nigeria Newspapers elected as vice chairman, Nasiru Shuaibu of New Telegraph as secretary, and Adamu Imam of Trust TV as treasurer.
Speaking after he was sworn in for a three-year tenure, Oyewole applauded members for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to run an inclusive administration that would prioritise welfare, professionalism and unity among members.
He promised to strengthen the relationship between the chapel and government institutions, security agencies and other stakeholders while upholding ethical journalism.
Rauf also promised to facilitate training and fellowship for members to update their knowledge and ideas.
