Three people were killed by gunmen on Sunday night at Dundu village in Kwall District of Irigwe Chiefdom of Bassa Local Council of Plateau State.

Some two weeks back, massive destruction of crops was perpetrated by suspected Fulani militiamen.

Those gruesomely murdered in the attack were Mr John Avia (48 years old); Sunday Vickson, (32 years old), and Peter Vickson (30 years old).

The incident was confirmed by the police, yesterday.

National Publicity Secretary of Irigwe Youth Movement, Joseph Chudu Yonkpa, in a statement yesterday, stated: “These incidents are one too many, and the numerous destructions Fulani militias continue to wage on the Irigwe community reaffirm their resolve against peaceful coexistence, peace, and tranquillity in Irigwe land.

“We encourage our people to increase vigilance, as our enemies are never asleep, seeking only to cause trouble and pain in our land. May God continue to rest the souls of our beloved ones, grant them eternal rest, and may our attackers never know peace.”

The state government, on its part, has said it had recruited 600 personnel to boost community policing on the Plateau.

The Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mrs Joyce Ramnap, made the revelation while addressing journalists in Jos.

MEANWHILE,  the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has stated that the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would not retain power in the state in the next general elections, declaring that “there is no vacancy for the party.”

Yilwatda, who was the APC governorship candidate in the 2023 general elections, asserted that his party would seize power in the state, with President Bola Tinubu returning at the federal level in 2027.
