lauds peaceful Ekiti poll, tasks INEC to sustain credible elections ahead of Osun governorship race, 2027 general election

President Bola Tinubu on Sunday congratulated Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, on his decisive victory in Saturday’s governorship election, describing the outcome as a resounding endorsement of his administration’s performance and a vote for continuity.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President praised the people of Ekiti State for conducting themselves peacefully and orderly throughout the electoral process, saying their participation reflected confidence in democratic governance.

Tinubu also commended security agencies for maintaining law and order during the election, while charging the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to build on the success of the Ekiti poll by ensuring future elections remain peaceful, free, fair and credible as the country prepares for the Osun State governorship election in August and the 2027 general election.

The President noted that with his overwhelming victory, Oyebanji has become the first governor in Ekiti State’s history to secure re-election back-to-back, describing the feat as a landmark achievement.

According to Tinubu, the governor earned a renewed mandate through tangible progress recorded during his first term, particularly in infrastructure development, agriculture, youth employment, education, healthcare and rural development under the BAO agenda.

“The renewed mandate is a clear vote of confidence in continuity, stability and people-centred governance,” the President said.

Tinubu urged the re-elected governor to remain magnanimous in victory and embrace all stakeholders as he begins a second term, stressing the need for inclusive leadership to consolidate development gains across the state.

He also commended other contestants for participating in the election and exercising their democratic rights, urging them to join hands with the governor in advancing the development of Ekiti State.

The President reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to partnering with the Ekiti State Government to deliver more dividends of democracy and deepen the implementation of the Renewed Hope Agenda for the benefit of the state’s residents.

President Tinubu prayed for wisdom, strength and good health for Governor Oyebanji as he continues to serve the people of Ekiti State.
