Say his contributions to journalism, democracy won’t be forgotten

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has mourned the veteran journalist and publisher of The Eagle Online, Dotun Oladipo, saying his contributions to journalism and Nigeria’s democratic development will not be forgotten.

In a condolence message yesterday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu described Oladipo’s death as a loss to the Nigerian media community and the nation.

Also, Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary/Special Adviser on Media, Oguwike Nwachuku, said that Oladipo’s death had left a big vacuum in the two elite media bodies where he was a leading light – The Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) and The Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP).

The NGE similarly expressed profound sadness over the death of Oladipo, describing him as a great journalist.

In a statement signed by its President, Eze Anaba, and General Secretary, Onuoha Ukeh, yesterday, the Guild said Oladipo distinguished himself throughout his decades-long career through professionalism, courage, intellectual depth and commitment to journalism.

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, said Oladipo’s death was a rude shock.

He urged his family, friends, colleagues and associates to accept the incident as the will of God.

The NGE said Oladipo made significant contributions to the growth of the Nigerian media, particularly the digital media landscape, describing him as a committed member of the Guild whose contributions strengthened the professional body and reflected his belief in professional solidarity and the promotion of ethical, credible and responsible journalism.

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, in a statement yesterday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, said Oladipo’s death was a rude shock, urging his family, friends, colleagues and associates to accept the incident as the will of God.

Meanwhile, the Board of Trustees, National Executive Committee and entire membership of the Nigerian chapter of the International Press Institute (IPI Nigeria) have commiserated with the family and associates over the passing of the journalist, publisher and entrepreneur.

A statement, signed by the President of IPI Nigeria, Musikilu Mojeed, described Oladipo as an excellent Nigerian journalist and passionate defender of press freedom.

The Institute also described Oladipo as a highly dependable, resourceful, professional, amiable, and deeply committed member of IPI Nigeria.
